Clinical Courses in Health Care:Pharmacy Technician**
The completion of this program will prepare the participant to work in a variety of settings including both retail and institutional pharmacy settings. Pharmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. They perform such tasks as filling prescriptions, packaging medication, inventory control and record keeping.
The Pharmacy Technician program at Health Care Training Services is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education and the class is a preparatory class for the national exam and a good solid background for working in the field as a pharmacy technician. In Massachusetts you cannot be licensed until you have completed the program and worked for 500 hours as a Pharmacy Technician trainee.
In Rhode Island you do not need to work the 500 hours to get a pharmacy technician license. We do, however, recommend that students work at least 6 months in the field prior to attempting the PCTB exam. There are many things covered in the classroom but technicians may encounter various situations in the field that cannot be covered in the class.
** This course is certified by the National Center for Compentency Testing(NCCT) and by the National Healthcareer Association(NHA) and our school is a certified testing site for the NHA National Certification Exam
